Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the moderating effect of strategic partnerships on the relationship between transformational leadership and sustainability of NGOs in Kenya. This study adopted a cross-sectional research design and targeted the 2028 active NGOs at the national level drawn from the registration database of the Kenya NGO Coordination Board. A questionnaire was used to collect the primary data and was piloted before use to measure for validity and reliability. The study also established that strategic partnership had a significantly enhanced moderating effect on the relationship between transformational leadership and the sustainability of the NGOs in Kenya. As evidenced in the study, financial resource diversification is instrumental in improving institutional sustainability of NGOs in Kenya. The study recommends that organization partnering with NGOs in Kenya should consider how the partnership will be managed and maintained, even after one or both parties move on. NGOs should jointly establish written agreements and protocols that outline the essential elements of the partnership and ensure there is effective leadership in executing partnership’s mandates.
